President’s report
Hello fellow members,
As we blow out the candles
on the 16th Birthday cake on the 28th of this
month –
What will we wish for….I
know that my wishes are as follows
1.- That this club is still
going strong in another 16 years. How do we do that, you may ask?
For me it is that we keep teaching the younger members how a club
and committee must be run and we take their ideas and thoughts
seriously as they are our future. We must nurture their growth and
support them as mentors.
2.-That as a club we keep
promoting Rock and roll in the region together with all other clubs
and groups. Be it through dances or demo’s.
3. That we look after each
other as members and support each other whether it is for dancing or
in general day to day as the support to your friends it is never to
be doubted it will often mean the world to them but may be something
minor to the person lending a hand, giving encouragement or support.
We have the V.R.R.D.A dance
championship in May and this being the 20th birthday is
again a great milestone and shows a lot of dedication for
competitors and the committees that have worked tirelessly to
promote rock n roll across the state.
If you would like to attend
speak to Janet as l will be in Darwin on a holiday and wont be able
to attend this year.
Our next major dance is in
August which is of course our Elvis dance the band for this night
will be Jump & Jive with an Elvis Tribute so please put it in your
calendar.
Queen’s birthday weekend is
of course Wintersun or Coolie Rocks , then the decision is which one
to attend….. I have been to a few Coolie Rocks and have always had a
great time. Janet has attended the new Wintersun and also the Coolie
Rocks so speak to her as to what they are having at both and then if
you want to attend you will be well informed.
Now AGM on the 30th May
after beginner class, the nomination forms will be in your magazine
and available at dance class and please be aware that nominations
need to go to John Jarman who has agreed to be our Returning Officer
again this year …
We have had a few new
members join us in the last month so welcome to our club.
Over Easter we had a chance
to dance in Paynesville on the water …..It was interesting and fun
it wasn’t a demo but a ad hock chance to dance and thanks to new
member Bernie for asking us to come. By the end of the day the barge
was becoming a bit of a Titanic but we as good rockers wouldn’t give
in and kept the people entertained who were watching us till the
end. It was a chilly afternoon but once you started dancing then you
soon warmed up…These are the best ways to promote rock and roll and
show people what joy they can achieve by going to dances or classes
See you at the birthday
dance l hope…
Let’s keep rocking …..Rama
